Undescended testis

Undescended testis
During development of the male fetus, the testicles move from their abdominal position down to the scrotum. On occasion this descend is incomplete and a baby boy can present with an undescended testicle affecting one or both sides. It is often seen in premature babies, but in many cases the testes will reach the scrotal location by 9 months of age. If this fails to occur, then surgical intervention is required to move and fix the testicle/s in the scrotum.
